Treatment Plan

  1. 01

    Step One: Comprehensive Assessment

During the consultation, the doctor will first clarify the metabolic status and degree of disorder, evaluate the direction of adjustment and the causes that require specialist treatment. Assessment when necessary: blood glucose monitoring (fasting/postprandial/HbA1c), oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), insulin release and insulin resistance assessment (HOMA-IR), blood lipids, liver function, uric acid and other metabolic indicators, body composition analysis (BMI, waist circumference, body fat percentage), TCM syndrome differentiation (spleen fistula/turbidity/phlegm stasis/qi deficiency).

  2. 02

    Step Two: Multidisciplinary Joint Assessment

It depends on the situation. The case can be jointly evaluated by the Department of Endocrinology, Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine/Metabolic Diseases, Nutrition Department, Sports Rehabilitation, Health Management Center, and Acupuncture Department.

  3. 03

Step Three: Traditional Chinese Medicine Diagnosis, Treatment And Conditioning

Through Traditional Chinese Medicine examination, blood sugar and metabolic index testing, body composition analysis and TCM syndrome differentiation, the treating team formulates an individualized metabolic conditioning package combining Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, acupoint catgut embedding, and dietary and exercise conditioning. Conditioning usually runs for 3 to 6 months, with regular re-evaluations during this period and is connected with endocrine treatment nodes.

Home Rehabilitation Guidance After Treatment In China

The treatment plan you formulated during your stay in China can also be continued after you return to your country.

Personalized Health Assessment

These assessments you completed while in the hospital are not only the basis for the doctor to formulate a plan, but also the baseline for your self-management after returning to your country:

  • Blood Glucose and HbA1c Assessment: Assess glycemic control levels and long-term glycation status
  • Insulin and Insulin Resistance Assessment (HOMA-IR): Determine pancreatic islet function and insulin resistance
  • Evaluation of metabolic indicators such as blood lipids, uric acid, and liver function: Assessing comprehensive metabolic disorders
  • Body composition and waist circumference assessment: Assessing the degree of adiposity and central adiposity
  • TCM constitution and syndrome differentiation assessment: Identify syndrome types such as spleen fistula, cream turbidity, phlegm and blood stasis, Qi deficiency, etc.
  • Diet, exercise and lifestyle assessment: Analyze diet and daily activity patterns

Personalized Health Intervention

The plan based on the assessment results is designed with the execution conditions after you return to your country in mind, and each item can be continued in the home environment:

  • The Traditional Chinese Medicine conditioning program continues: Individualized prescriptions based on strengthening the spleen and removing turbidity, activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis, replenishing qi and nourishing yin, etc. You can continue to take the medicine after returning home, and the doctor will provide remote guidance and adjustments.
  • Acupuncture/point catgut embedding plan handover: The doctor will give you an acupuncture treatment plan, which can be implemented with your local Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner.
  • Medical nutrition treatment plan: An individualized diet plan based on your metabolic type and local food resources, not a surprise diet, but a systematic adjustment of the diet structure
  • Exercise prescription and daily activity guidance: A step-by-step exercise program that can be implemented at home, focusing on improving insulin sensitivity and controlling weight
  • Home monitoring guidance: Teach you to monitor and record key indicators such as blood sugar, blood pressure, and weight on your own, and establish trackable health files

Frequently asked questions

Can Traditional Chinese Medicine "cure" diabetes/obesity?

We do not promise a cure. Metabolic conditioning in Traditional Chinese Medicine helps improve glucose and lipid metabolism, reduce insulin resistance, and assist in weight management. It is often used as a collaborative method in modern diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and obesity, and the efficacy varies from person to person. Patients with clear blood sugar control, complications or severe obesity must first receive standardized diagnosis and treatment from the endocrinology department. TCM conditioning does not replace standard treatment.

Do I need to stop taking anti-hyperglycemic/hypertensive drugs during TCM conditioning?

Never stop taking medication on your own. The goal of TCM metabolic conditioning is to collaboratively improve metabolic indicators and overall status on the basis of existing standardized treatments. If the indicators do improve after conditioning, the endocrinologist must evaluate and decide whether the medication regimen needs to be adjusted. Do not make your own decisions. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners will monitor changes in indicators during the conditioning process and communicate with your specialist in a timely manner.

I already take a lot of medicine every meal, will it be too much if I add Traditional Chinese Medicine?

I understand your concerns. A Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner will comprehensively evaluate all the medicines you are taking, avoid interactions when prescribing Traditional Chinese Medicines, and try to simplify the medication. Traditional Chinese Medicine is usually provided in the form of non-decoction granules. There is no need to boil it and it can be taken directly without adding additional burden of taking medicine. During the conditioning process, liver and kidney functions will be reviewed regularly to ensure medication safety.
